The CHS girls’
hockey team continued its three-week winning streak with
dominating performances over Westwood, 4-0, and Quincy, 7-1. At
the halfway point in the season, the girls have an overall
record of 8-1 and remain undefeated in league play.
As was the
case in last week’s game against Medfield, the girls failed to
score until the second period, but still managed to have one of
the strongest starts of the season, coach Kelly Rider said.
Seniors Ally Boudreau and Vicki O’Brien, and freshmen Meghan
Lennon and Meghan McKenna netted one goal each while sophomore
Stephanie Rizzitano finished the night with two assists. Junior
Sarah Healey added a fourth shutout to her 4-1 record in goal
for the season.
In Saturday’s
game against Quincy, the girls began the game with a lot of
controlled energy, which continued throughout the game, Rider
said. Canton played well in the first period but made a few
mistakes, allowing Quincy to capitalize on a handful of odd-man
rushes, but senior goalie Kelly White played strong defense,
denying almost every attempt.
“Before the
second period we made a few adjustments and they appeared to pay
off,” Rider said.
Sophomore
Hayley Gaughan scored a hat-trick while Lennon had three
assists. White finished the game with her goals against average
at 1.0 for the season.
See next week’s Citizen
for the results of Wednesday’s game against Hingham.
