Last week’s
devastating earthquake in Haiti has rocked the world with its
aftermath of destruction and staggering numbers of dead and
missing. While the statistics change from day to day, families
across the world, the nation and here in Canton are still living
under a cloud of fear and uncertainty.
Canton
resident Judith Joseph, president of Home Helpers, Inc. on
Washington Street, has several Haitian employees at her home
health care company, and she is imploring local residents to
contribute to the relief donations that have been provided by
governments and aid groups around the world.
“Home Helpers
is a home care agency and medical transportation service that
employs various Haitian home health aide and driver workers, and
their family members have been seriously hit by the devastation
of the earthquake in Haiti,” Joseph said.
Many of her
employees, including Arnould Bernard, Jackie Seide, Francesca
Neptune, Fecker Louis-Jean, Betana Chery, Lourdes Laurent,
Brunel Thermot, Antoine Accelon, Cassie Saint-Jules and Immacula
Mayer, are awaiting word on the safety of their loved ones. For
many of them, news has been limited to television reports and
the Internet.
The 7.0
magnitude quake that hit the impoverished Caribbean country on
Tuesday, January 12 has spurred relief efforts around the world.
Supplies in need run the gamut from food and clean water to
medical supplies and antibiotics.
Joseph said
her company is collecting monetary donations to help her
employees and their families. “Any donations to these employees
would be greatly appreciated,” she said, “and may be sent
directly to 21st Century Home Care, Inc. at 866
Washington St., Canton MA 02021.”
