After three
weeks of undefeated play, the CHS varsity girls’ ice hockey team
lost 6-1 to Hingham, but rebounded at the end of the week with a
7-0 shutout over Boston Latin Academy.
The girls
started off strong against Hingham with freshman Meghan McKenna
netting the game’s first goal. With two-and-a-half minutes left
in the first period, however, the girls began to make mistakes,
and Hingham scored three consecutive goals.
“Because we
haven’t been in similar situations this year and we haven’t
faced too many challenges, it was hard for the team to rebound
and come back,” coach Kelly Rider said.
The girls
regained their composure in the third period, playing stronger
offense and defense.
“I think it
served as a good learning experience for the girls,” Rider said,
reflecting on the game. “Hopefully, when we face stronger teams
and are challenged more in the future, we will be able to
persevere.”
The girls
showed the strength they’re known for in Sunday’s game against
Boston Latin. McKenna and fellow freshman Meghan Lennon scored
two goals, while seniors Ally Boudreau and Jackie Rooney and
sophomore Stephanie Rizzitano netted the Bulldogs’ three
additional goals. Rider said the Boston Latin goaltenders played
well and made a lot of good saves, but Canton was able to
capitalize on rebounds and battles in front of the net. Junior
Sarah Healey was in goal for the shutout, her fifth of the
season.

for the results of Monday’s game against Walpole and Wednesday’s
game against Franklin.
