NEW CANTON CONDOS BEING FORECLOSED
DID YOU KNOW…
One of the
larger and more surprising foreclosure notices recently
published in the Patriot Ledger concerned the new
Blue Hills Commons Condos
belonging to B.H. Commons, LLC., located at 780 Dedham Street,
Suite 400 in Canton, which are being foreclosed by their 2006
mortgagee, the National City Bank. The condo complex is located
at 6, 8, 10 and 12 Royall Street, as well as 5, 8 and 10
Davenport Avenue and 2736 and 2738 Washington Street, all in the
shadow of the Blue Hills.
MAC just
bought a copy of George
Comeau’s new postcard history book, “Canton,”
published by Arcadia Publishing. It only cost $20, and if you’re
interested in Canton history, you should have this book in your
library. It is informative, interesting and very well done.
The Fiddlehead Theatre,
located at 109 Central Street in Norwood next to the common, has
been sold for $925,000. The building underwent extensive
modifications to the exterior and interior in 2006, after which
the Fiddlehead Theatre Company ran a live theater business.
Business began to decrease, however, and the location has been
dormant for almost a year.
The Caritas Health and
Wellness Center’s facility, located at 920 Washington
Street in Norwood’s RAMA Shopping Center, will be closed by the
Norwood Hospital management team and cease operations on
February 28. The center’s operator said the closure is the
result of the faltering economy and an increase in the number of
facilities in the area offering similar services.
If you’re
planning to buy a new or used car, you should be familiar with
the state’s so-called
“Lemon Law,” especially since some dealers aren’t
doing all they should to make the rules clear. The state’s Lemon
Law regarding new and used vehicles requires that different
notices be placed on each eligible car for sale at a dealership.
The notices must detail the consumer’s right to a refund after
reasonable attempts to repair a car are made, and they must also
outline the arbitration process that a consumer can pursue to
decide whether the car qualifies for a refund. The law for used
cars applies to vehicles sold at a dealership that cost at least
$700 and have fewer than $125,000 miles, and used car dealers
must provide limited warranties on eligible cars.
The
Route 24
resurfacing project is closed down for the winter and will
resume in the spring. The project includes resurfacing and
bridge overpass repair along a four-mile stretch in Stoughton
and Avon.
The Massachusetts Supreme
Court has overturned the conviction of fired
Stoughton Police Sergeant David Cohen who was charged with
public corruption. Even though the court overturned the guilty
verdict because of errors in the jury selection process, the
court also said evidence against Cohen supported the verdicts,
so Cohen can be retried on all charges on which he was found
guilty.
At the latest count, about
37.9 million people — or one in every six Americans — are
receiving food stamps, as enrollment set a record for the ninth
month in a row. The average monthly benefit was $133.60 per
person in October.
Collective
Brands, Inc., the Kansas-based owner of Payless Shoe Source,
Stride Rite, Keds, and Saucony, is in the process of buying the
Above The Rim brand from Canton-based Reebok International. The
price hasn’t been announced.
Some
noteworthy people recently passed away. One of them was
Donald Goerke,
who died at age 83 in New Jersey. Mr. Goerke was a longtime
employee of the Campbell Soup Company’s Franco-American line and
is credited with creating Chunky Soups and kid favorite
SpaghettiO’s.
In Amsterdam,
Netherlands, Mrs. Miep
Gies died at age 100. Mrs. Gies’ family hid the
Jewish family of Anne
Frank from the Nazis for two years, and it was Mrs.
Gies who was credited with saving Anne Frank’s diaries, which
were scattered following her arrest. Without those diaries, Anne
Frank’s story would never have been known.
Lastly, in
Louisiana, singer-songwriter
Bobby Charles
died at 71. He was the man who wrote the unforgettable and
popular Fats Domino hit
“See You Later, Alligator.”
When school is
in session, MAC often eats lunch at the
Chateau de Bleu at the
Blue Hills Regional, and he suggests you try it. The
menu changes daily, and whatever they serve, it is excellent and
very reasonably priced.
Finally, it
doesn’t surprise us that
Russia has one
of the highest levels of personal alcohol consumption in the
world. Reportedly, the equivalent of 18 liters, or almost five
gallons of pure alcohol per capita, per year, is consumed there.
Coincidentally, a study published last year in the Lancet
Medical Journal said drinking has caused more than half the
deaths among Russians ages 15 to 54 since the 1991 Soviet
collapse.
The things you control,
you take care of. What you don’t control, you must let take
care of itself.
This is all
for now folks; see you next week.
