The Canton
High School varsity girls’ hockey team added two more wins this
week, 8-2 over Dover-Sherborn and 7-1 against Westwood.
Coach Kelly
Rider described the game against Dover-Sherborn as one of the
best complete games all season.
“I think this
can be attributed to the hard work and effort the girls put in
earlier in the week in practices and in team meetings,” Rider
said.
Freshman
Meaghan McKenna had a hat trick and an assist on the night.
Fellow freshmen Meghan Lennon and Julia Murphy netted one goal
apiece. Haley Gaughan, Michelle McNeil and Stephanie Rizzitano —
a trio of sophomores — each finished the game with a goal and an
assist.
Saturday’s
game against Westwood saw similar success for the Bulldogs. The
girls netted two goals in the first period and were able to
protect the lead for the remainder of the game. Although the
team ran into penalty trouble at the end of the game, the
Bulldogs managed to kill the resulting power plays, including
one that placed three Canton players against Westwood’s five,
Rider said.
With the
regular season coming to a close this week, Rider said she is
“very pleased with the improvements we have made throughout the
season and am happy with how we are playing right now at the end
of our regular season going into playoffs.”

week’s Citizen for the results of Wednesday’s game against King
Philip.
