The CHS girls’
hockey team finished off the regular season with two more wins —
over King Philip and Quincy — remaining undefeated in the league
with 14 wins and an overall record of 15-2-1.
The girls
began the week with their senior night, which ended with a 7-0
shutout of KP. Before the game the team honored its ten seniors
— captains Vicki O’Brien, Kelly White and Kinsley Willis, and
Ally Boudreau, Ellie Carten, Allie Jones, Nicole Marcone, Maria
Menconi, Jackie Rooney and Jenna Zannino.
The girls
started off strong with four goals in the first period and rode
the momentum throughout the game. Carten netted her first goal
of the season against KP’s Alyssa Siegmann. Sophomore Stephanie
Rizzitano netted two goals in the KP game while junior Molly
Phalan, sophomore Hayley Gaughan, and freshmen Julia Murphy and
Meaghan McKenna scored one goal each.
The game
against Quincy proved closer, with the Bulldogs inching out a
4-3 win. Coach Kelly Rider said the game was not one of the
team’s best and described Canton’s mistakes throughout the game
as “uncharacteristic.”
“I think we
have been playing very well,” Rider said. “If we had to have a
poor game at some point I think we would much rather it have
been last Saturday than once we get into the playoffs.”
Rider said she
expects the girls to get right back on track and continue to
work hard to succeed in the postseason.
This Saturday
Gaughan, Jones, McKenna and Rooney head to the all-star game to
represent CHS. Additionally, the Canton coaching staff will be
coaching the North all-star team.
