Dogs' top 3 wrestlers wrap up season at All-State
tourney
Senior
wrestlers Will Alfano and Kyle Forte and junior Kevin Connolly
finished their season at the All-State Wrestling Championship
Tournament held at Salem High School on Friday and Saturday.
Forte lost
close bouts at 112 pounds to Nate Hooper from Masco and Nick
Cahsion from Winchester to bring his career at CHS to an end.
“I was numb
for about an hour,” said Forte about his elimination at the
All-States. “We finish a match and we start getting ready for
our next match or our next tournament. It still feels odd that
my career here is over.”
Connolly lost
his first bout to the eventual champion, Jake Sherman. In his
second match, Connolly avenged an earlier loss at states to
Frankie Weir from Hampshire before losing in the next round to
Sean Derby from Mt. Greylock to wrap up his season.
“I can eat
again,” said Connolly, who has been keeping his weight down in
order to compete at 125 pounds. “It was worth the sacrifice, but
I’m going to have a nice juicy burger on my way home tonight.”
Alfano lost to
Turesky from Newton in round one. In round two he lost to
Division 3 champion Dean Nemeroff, eliminating him from the
tournament.
“You look
ahead to the next round but there are no more rounds to look
forward to this year,” Alfano said. “After the shock wears off
you begin to think back on all of the wonderful things that we
accomplished this year. We did a great deal better than everyone
thought we would do. Yes, the hard work was definitely worth
it.”
