Boys' lax splits week
The CHS
boys’ lacrosse team went 1-1 last week, beating playoff-bound
Abington on Thursday but falling to Hockomock League rival
Foxboro the next day.
The Bulldogs
traveled to Abington on Thursday and took down the 10-2 squad
8-4. Kyle Leavitt and Malcolm Lloyd each scored two goals and
each had an assist. Mike Vozella had two assists and added a
goal of his own, and Josh Sarnowitz, Ray Bass, Alex Vinciguerra
and Rob Rizzitano each contributed at least one point to the
Canton victory.
The Bulldog
defense was relentless, with Nick Sullivan silencing Abington’s
leading scorer. “He finished with 0 points,” said coach Bill
Bendell, who noted that Canton goalie Vytas Stuopis made 16
saves.
Friday’s
loss (5-4) to the Foxboro Warriors was a repeat of the squads’
first meeting this season, with Canton trailing by a single
goal.
“We were
very sluggish to start the game,” said Bendell. “We trailed at
halftime, 3-0, despite excellent play from our goalie [Stuopis].”
Bendell,
however, said Canton was “a different team” in the second half,
outscoring the visitors 2-0 in the third and tying the game at 4
with 1:57 left on the clock.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Foxboro buried the game-winner
with only 30 seconds remaining.
Lloyd scored
one goal, had one assist and picked up seven ground balls.
Canton’s defense played well with Peter Desisto and Mukas
Neidhardt dominant and Joey Griffiths and Ray Bass controlling
the midfield.
Canton was
scheduled to play at North Attleboro yesterday and will host
King Philip tomorrow. The Bulldogs were 4-8 going into the
week.
