The Canton
High School boys’ tennis team dropped two matches last week,
bringing its overall record to 2-10. The Bulldogs lost away on
Wednesday to King Philip and at home on Thursday to North
Attleboro.
As was the
case last week, the Bulldogs were forced to shift their lineup,
this time due to injuries and illness, and coach Leo Nelson was
impressed with the way some of his players filled in key spots.
“Alek Flekel stepped up in a huge way for the third singles
slot,” he praised, adding that Brian Kodzis “continues to hold
his own at second singles.”
Canton has a
very young team, which makes it difficult for the Bulldogs to
compete in such a talented league. But the young players have
had a positive attitude throughout the season and have potential
for the future. “I am extremely impressed with the younger
players’ attitudes and their desire to improve with each match,”
said Nelson. He praised Hao Le who, despite battling an illness,
alternated with Eric Tat at first singles.
The Bulldogs
have three Hockomock League matches this week. They were
scheduled to play Sharon Monday, Oliver Ames Tuesday and
Franklin today.
