After losing
six straight games to fall to a season-worst 3-10 record, the
girls’ varsity lacrosse team bounced back with two big road wins
last week, beating Sharon on Wednesday, 17-12, before taking
care of Foxborough, 18-10, a day later.
Wednesday’s
game also marked the return of sophomore standout Allie
Boudreau, who, after missing several games due to a knee injury,
came back with a vengeance, netting six goals and assisting on
four others in the victory over the Eagles. She followed up that
performance with an even more prolific effort against Foxborough,
finishing with seven goals and four assists.
As if
Boudreau’s two-day scoring totals (21 points) weren’t gaudy
enough, senior phenom Brittany Lyons somehow managed to be even
better by one point — with eight goals and four assists on
Wednesday and another eight goals and two assists on Thursday.
Head coach
Rich Bourgelas estimated that Lyons, who already holds every
major school lacrosse record, has surpassed the 300-point mark
for her career, including 85 this season with two games
remaining. The season record currently stands at 93, which Lyons
set last year in her final game as a junior.
Other
Bulldogs who scored against Sharon included: Nicole Marcone
(goal, 2 assists), Meaghan Daly, Sam Smith and Arielle Spadea (2
assists). Against Foxborough, other scorers included: Spadea
(goal, 3 assists), Smith, Becca McAdams and Marcone (3 assists).
Goalkeeper Charlotte Mostertz was also impressive in both games,
finishing with 24 total saves.
On Monday
against undefeated King Philip — a team Bourgelas described as
in a “class by themselves” — Canton suffered a convincing
defeat, 23-4. Lyons scored two goals, and Smith and Kinsley
Willis had one apiece.
The Bulldogs
were scheduled to face North Attleboro on Wednesday, and
tomorrow they close out the season with a game at King Philip.
