CHS senior long distance runner Alyse Rocco has picked up where she left off during the winter indoor track season — winning championships.

Rocco won the State Coaches Invitational Meet in the two mile on Saturday with a time of 11:16.54. Her nearest competitor finished at 11:19.59.

CHS girls’ coach Chris Elgar also reported that the 4x800 relay team of Rocco, Sara Teague, Sarah Jankowski and Christie Keough qualified for the states at the Invitational with a time of 10:31.

Two other girls — Radiya Buchanan, who ran a superb 400-meter dash, and high jumper Julie Joseph — qualified during a recent meet against Franklin. The State Coaches Invitational Meet for the boys was held Saturday at Durfee High in Fall River. CHS boys’ head coach Nick Devers said the weather was definitely a factor for the boys as they had a hard time getting properly warmed up in the 100-meter dash and the high jump. Although Bobby Saraf and Matt Wing each had some great attempts, it was not a good jumping day for the Bulldogs.

The 4x800 relay team just missed qualifying for the state meet by posting a season best of 8:53.82, and Christian Bates continues to improve in the 300 hurdles.

100-meter dash: Kevin Ward, 11.84 seconds; Dmitry Kovalenkov, 11.93; Kevis Nash, 12.06
