Shutouts by two opposing pitchers shut the door to the playoffs for the CHS baseball team last week. Canton dropped decisions to Sharon, 5-0, and Franklin, 7-0.

In the Sharon game, Rob McCarty started but lasted only three innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, and left with a sore arm. CHS head coach Tom Healy reported that with rest, McCarty is fine. Devin O’Gorman came in and pitched a strong relief effort, giving up no runs and no hits while striking out five batters.

Collecting Canton’s only two hits were O’Gorman and Dan Pendergast.

Mike Correira started in the Franklin game and gave up seven runs in four innings on ten hits while striking out six batters. Sophomore A.J. Nichols gave up two hits in two innings of shutout relief while striking out three batters.

Canton’s only two hits were produced by O’Gorman and John McNeice.

The Bulldogs were scheduled to end their 2008 season earlier this week with games against Foxboro and Scituate.
