The Canton
High School boys’ lacrosse team went 1-1 last week, beating
North Attleboro but losing to league-leading King Philip.
On Wednesday
Canton took down NA, 3-1, in a defensive battle that found the
Bulldogs trailing 1-0 at the half. Malcolm Lloyd, Ray Bass and
Alex Vinciguerra scored Canton’s goals. Chris Malloy and Kyle
Leavitt each added an assist.
The entire
Bulldog defense played well, but coach Bill Bendell praised
Mukas Neidhardt and Pete Desisto for “standing out.”
He also
noted the performance of goalie Vytas Stuopis, who only allowed
one goal and made nine saves.
On Friday,
Canton lost 9-4 at home to undefeated KP (18-0). “They are the
best team in the league,” said Bendell, “and one of the best
teams in the state. I was proud of our effort.”
The game was
close until the fourth quarter when the Warriors pulled away.
Lloyd led the scoring with two assists and a goal. Bass scored
two goals, and Josh Sarnowitz added one as well. For the second
consecutive game, Leavitt and Malloy each added an assist.
“Our defense
was tremendous,” said Bendell, noting that Desisto, Nick
Sullivan, Chris Lane and Dan McGrath all played well. He praised
the performance of Neidhardt, who led the defense with seven
ground balls and played a key role on the face-off wing.
Bendell said
Stuopis was “phenomenal in the cage,” making 20 saves to keep
the game close.
The Bulldogs
were scheduled to wrap up their 2008 season yesterday at home
against non-league opponent Norwell.
