Canton High's
girls' tennis team earns ticket to tourney
By Connor Erickson

The CHS
girls’ tennis team ended its regular season on a high note last
week — with two big wins and a ticket to the postseason, as the
Bulldogs qualified for the state tournament for the first time
since 2006. The team clinched its tourney berth with a 3-2
victory against Foxboro on the Warriors’ home court.
Kelly
Winter won at third singles and both doubles teams came out on
top (Carol Berman and Kendall Sceviour at first, Tammy Nghiem
and Kristen Coco at second). These three positions all won in
two sets.
On Tuesday
the Bulldogs ventured out of the Hock in their only non-league
contest of the season. They played at home against Fontbonne
Academy. The match was stopped halfway through due to weather,
but Canton had a commanding lead and Fontbonne ended up
forfeiting the match.
Coach Sheila
Conneely said she has been very impressed with her team’s
performace throughout the season and also their positive
attitude. On Thursday night Canton was awarded the Hockomock
League Sportsmanship Award.
The girls
finished up the regular season with an impressive 10-7 record.
Seedings for the state tournament came out yesterday, and
Conneely anticipates a first-round match Friday for Canton.
