By Mike Berger

Alyse Rocco
won the mile and the CHS girls’ track team, despite being small
in size, had several impressive performances in last week’s
Hockomock League championships.
The team
finished seventh overall and managed to beat Foxboro, which had
bested the Bulldogs earlier in the year. CHS head coach Chris
Elgar said the team had an exceptional two-day meet and finished
better than he expected, as the Bulldogs came within six points
of sixth place. He said many members of the team had strong
performances and showed great improvement.
Rocco won
the mile in 5:09.12 — a new league record.
Another
great performance was recorded by the 4 x 800 relay, which raced
third and set its best time of the year at 10:13.5 behind Rocco,
Christie Keough, Sara Teague and Kate D’Orazio.
CHS head
coach Chris Elgar said the relay keeps improving, and he expects
it to do very well in the upcoming Class C meet.
Other
results included: freshman Anna Amico, 100-meter finals,
seventh, 13.83 seconds; freshman Radiya Buchanan, 400 meters,
eighth, 65.54 seconds; and the 4 x 100 relay (Amico, Erica
Guenthner, Buchanan and Shirley Han), fifth, 53.13.
Elgar noted
that Han was a last-minute replacement and the relay, which was
seeded sixth, finished one spot better than expected.
The 4 x 400
relay finished in eighth place at 4:47 behind Sarah Jankowski,
Nicole Santosuosso, Jenny Sidney and Ashley Pezzone.
Ali Canney
scored sixth in the discus with a huge personal best throw and
then came back in the shot put and broke the 30-foot barrier to
place fifth.
Sam Burrows
also had a good day with a 31-foot, seven-inch throw to place
fourth. Julie Joseph placed fifth in the triple jump with a
33-foot jump.
Also
recording personal bests were Mindy Menardy and Chidimma Nwankwa
in the discus and shot put, respectively.
Representing
CHS at Saturday’s Class C Meet at Milton High will be Rocco
(mile), Joseph and Geneva Poshkus (triple jump), Amico (100),
Buchanan in the 400, and three relay teams: the 4 x 800, the 4
x 400, and the 4 x 100.
