Canton A's beat Norton

Canton’s
Chris Smith pitched one-hit ball over six innings and struck out
seven as the Canton A’s split a doubleheader with Norton in very
hot conditions Sunday to come away with a 3-1 win in the second
game.
The victory
upped the A’s record to 4-3 and puts the team in the middle of
the standings in the 11-member division after a couple of weeks
of play.
One of the
highlights of the game was a diving catch by second baseman
Ricardo Sullivan, who flipped the ball to second for the second
out — a relay throw just missed a triple play — in the seventh
inning. The win went to Smith who lasted six plus innings and
was relieved by Brian Bodjiak who was credited with the save.
The game was
scoreless in the fourth inning when Steve Delanian hit a double
to right field and Joe Belmosto forced home a run on a
groundout. Belmosto’s single knocked in an insurance run in the
seventh inning.
The first
game went to Norton as Canton’s Greg Lyons pitched well but had
no run support. Canton was limited to two hits — a double by
Andy Dominguez and a single by Mike Trachtenberg.
The A’s lost
to Braintree 11-1 earlier in the week. The only highlight was
the performance of pitcher Tim Bonham who shut out Braintree for
four innings.
The A’s —
made up of college and post-college baseball players — were
scheduled to host Rockland on Tuesday, June 10 and will be home
again today, Thursday, for a game against Quincy, tomorrow
against Rockland, and a double header with Easton on Sunday,
June 15 beginning at 11 a.m.
