As it gears
up for next week’s annual Fourth of July celebration at Canton
High School, the Canton Recreation Commission has added a second
prize to its 50/50 raffle fundraiser and is encouraging all
residents to purchase at least one $5 ticket.
Initially
planned as solely a 50/50 raffle, in which one grand prizewinner
receives 50 percent of the money raised by the sale of tickets,
the raffle will now feature the chance to win two tickets to A
Chorus Line at the Boston Opera House, scheduled for 7 p.m. on
Tuesday, September 16.
Raffle
tickets can currently be purchased at a variety of locations
throughout Canton, including: the William J. Armando Recreation
Department building, D & E Pizza & Subs, American Legion Post
24, Rosario’s Restaurant, and the Canton Town Club, as well as
from any of the recreation commissioners.
In addition,
tickets will be available at a booth behind Canton High School
on July 3 and 4, and will be sold right up until the drawing is
held — around 9:25 p.m., just before the fireworks are set to go
off.
“If
everybody bought one, just imagine what that 50/50 amount would
be,” said Recreation Commission Chairman Tim Brooks, the
organizer of this year’s event.
Brooks said
the proceeds from the raffle will be used to fund both this
year’s and next year’s July Fourth celebration, which is not
funded by the town, but paid for entirely out of money raised by
the Recreation Commission.
