near no-hitter

In a rain
shortened week, the Canton A’s of the Cranberry League evened
their record at 6-6 with a 2-1 win over Foxboro as Tim Bonham
nearly pitched a no-hitter. Bonham entered the last inning with
no hits but gave up a double and a single with two outs.
A’s General
Manager Cab Devoll and head coach Kee Argambeault said Bonham
pitched a great game and showed a good pitching assortment,
including a great curveball, while pitching with a finger
blister. The A’s scored their two runs through passed balls.
Second baseman Carlos Cornejo made a great diving catch to open
the inning to preserve the shutout.
Despite the
rainouts the good news for the A’s was that two pitchers were
due back from injuries: Chris Smith and Greg Lyons, both former
standout pitchers at Canton High School.
With the
rainouts and the impending July 4 weekend, Canton’s regular
season schedule will be extended one week to July 19 as the A’s
now have seven games to make up.
The team was
due to host Weymouth on June 29 and travel to Easton on
Wednesday, July 1, just prior to the July 4 weekend break.
Canton will then resume play at CHS on Monday, July 6, against
Easton.
