with three more wins

Great
pitching and timely hitting helped the Canton A’s reel off three
more wins and almost defeat first-place Easton last week,
improving its record to 14-7.
The A’s,
coached by Canton’s Cab Devoll, were in third place in the
league at the mid point of the season and are in good position
to make the Stan Musial Playoff Tournament, which features the
league’s top five teams.
The A’s
began the week with a 4-1 win over Weymouth, as Canton’s Greg
Lyons pitched a complete game two-hitter.
On June 28,
Canton led first-place Easton (17-0) 1-0 going into the seventh
inning before ultimately losing 3-2.
A highlight
of the game was the performance of Brian Bodjiak — pitching for
the first time this season after coming off a shoulder injury.
He limited Easton to just one hit over five innings. Two errors
by the A’s in the last inning paved the way for the 3-2 loss.
The first
game of a Sunday doubleheader at home against Middleboro was
forfeited in Canton’s favor because Middleboro did not show up
on time. Devoll said the league will be asked to rule on whether
the forfeit still stands.
In the
second game of the doubleheader, Canton bats were hot and
consistent, staking Canton’s Chris Smith to a big lead as the
A’s coasted to a 10-1 win. Smith completed the game with a
four-hitter.
The A’s will
host the South Shore Warriors on Sunday, July 6 at 11 a.m.
