Potpourri

There is so much to write about this week. I just can’t seem to get my mind around it all. Therefore, I apologize if this is more disjointed than usual.

First, I would like to tell everyone that Fiddlehead’s has remained in Canton. Hurray! They have moved to Cobb’s Corner, near Babel’s. It is certainly not as beautiful as the old Grover house but in Canton none-the-less, and I am thankful, because I love that store.

Second, to all those who have asked me, I would like to say that I am overly saddened about the financial crisis that our town is in. Assuredly we are not alone, but that does not make the decisions that we have to make any easier. The override is a tough decision for many folks. For many in this town, voting in favor of the override is not a foregone conclusion.

Third, I would like to applaud our selectmen on their stance against Westwood Station. I despise nothing more than a bully and give a standing ovation in support of their efforts on our behalf. It appears as though the Westwood Station folks did not realize that Canton would not just go away. We are not afraid — keep up the good work!!

Fourth, I must admit, I am out of the loop as far as the Plymouth Rubber parcel goes. This may be a good thing, because my blood pressure was going through the roof! None of my usual “sources” have had a chance to update me, and I have been unable to attend any meeting in person.

Fifth, I plan on attending the CAPE gala. I attended last year and it was a blast to see everyone together for a fun event. At past events, we heard about the inventive ideas that the CAPE grants have funded. We have some very creative and innovative teachers, who keep exciting projects coming to the students with the financing provided by CAPE.

Sixth, my son and all the other fifth graders and their parents from the Hansen School are grateful that the Flashback was such a success. It was very exciting to participate in and fun to watch. The next ambitious undertaking for the fifth grade at the Hansen will be performing in Fiddler on the Roof

Seventh, the upcoming elections in Canton are turning out to be a divergence from years past. There are many new faces that have entered the fray. It is always healthy when people join in our democratic process. There is not much more you can do for our town than run for and get elected to local office. The hours, the meetings and the press (hmm) are oppressive, and more than I could handle. I commend all those who seek this, often thankless, post.
